After the first practice of training camp, Jets receiver Garrett Wilson boldly stated that the team's goal is to win a Super Bowl. Florham Park, NJ May 31, 2023 — Wide receiver, Garrett Wilson during the Jets OTA.

New York Jets wide receiver Garrett Wilson could be one of the top receivers in the NFL after the team acquired quarterback Aaron Rodgers earlier this year.

But though Wilson won Offensive Rookie of the Year in 2022 without Rodgers, Wilson refuses to buy into the hype produced by those around him.

“I don’t think I’m a star,” Wilson told Steve Serby of The New York Post. “I just play football. I do it well, luckily, and I’m thankful for all my fans. But I don’t think that I’m a star in this town. There’s so many stars in this town, actual stars and stuff that I definitely ain’t.”

Wilson went on to show why many people think he will become a star: His drive to be better.

“I ain’t done nothing yet,” he told The Post. “I gotta prove myself and just make sure I’m taking big steps, man.”

Jets wide receiver Randall Cobb, who played with Davante Adams, another No. 17 who made a name for himself catching balls from Rodgers, didn’t want to compare the two while lauding Wilson for his greatness.

“I hate the [Michael] Jordan verse Kobe [Bryant] to Jordan versus LeBron [James], I hate all those comparisons, ’cause I think that when greatness is around you, you gotta accept it for what it is, and I’ve seen greatness from [Wilson], and it’s about him continuing to refine who he is and refine his game and continue to take it to another level,” Cobb said.

If Wilson can take another leap this season, it will assuredly go a long way to helping the Jets achieve their Super Bowl aspirations.
