The New York Jets radically improved their roster this offseason by signing veteran quarterback Aaron Rodgers. But while there’s undeniable excitement about the new addition, there has been some concern in recent weeks about whether or not the team would be able to retain star defensive tackle Quinnen Williams. But it looks like things are trending in a positive direction on that front.

This week, the New York Post reported that the New York Jets and Wiliams are “not that far apart” on a potential contract extension that would keep the star defensive tackle in New York.

“There is still confidence the two sides will reach an agreement, according to those in the know about the negotiations,” the New York Post reported this week. “The sense is they are not that far apart, and there is hope something could happen in the next few weeks before NFL business slows down in mid-June.”

That sentiment was echoed by New York Jets head coach Robert Saleh, who said the he is “not worried” about the contract discussions between the team and Williams.

“I’m not worried at all,” Saleh said according to the New York Post. “That thing will get done, and he’ll be here.”

This is a big update considering the previous report that the two sides were “not close” to a potential contract extension and Williams presumably scrubbing any mention of the New York Jets from his social media. As a result, the NFL world had plenty to say about it on Twitter.

It will certainly be interesting to see how this situation develops.
