The New York Jets will start quarterback Zach Wilson on Sunday against the Detroit Lions. The Jets need to win if they have any shot of making the playoffs.

ESPN’s NFL insider Adam Schefter broke the story about Wilson returning to the limelight, saying sources told him Jets doctors won’t clear last week’s injured starter Mike White to play.

“Sources: Jets doctors will not clear QB Mike White for contact before Sunday’s game vs. Detroit and thus Zach Wilson will start against the Lions,” Schefter tweeted. “White wanted to play and has practiced but Jets doctors are not signing off. Thus, Wilson is back as the Jets’ starting QB.”

The Jets originally selected Wilson with the No. 2 overall pick of the 2021 NFL Draft. Wilson lost the job to White after a three-point performance against the New England Patriots back on Nov. 20th.

The NFL world was quick to react to the news:

“Zach Wilson is back baby! To ruin your fantasy football playoffs,” Kate Magdziuk tweeted.

“Unbelievable opportunity for Zach Wilson with the Jets season on the line but I feel terrible for Mike White. You gotta be kidding me,” tweeted Jake Asman.

“Crazy. Also good news for the Patriots, who would benefit from the Jets losing,” Zack Cox tweeted.

“If you’re stressing out about the Vikings’ playoff scenarios — they need one win or one Lions loss at some point in the next four weeks to clinch the NFC North — this won’t help,” Kevin Seifert wrote.

“This is not what I wanted for Christmas,” Ryan McDowell said.

Oddsmakers list the Jets as one-point favorites entering Sunday’s game.
