The Seattle Seahawks are in the Super Bowl, just one season removed from missing the playoffs. However, while the main focus should be on Seattle’s remarkable turnaround and quarterback Sam Darnold’s amazing redemption story, Seattle’s ownership group has been making headlines.
ESPN reported that the Allen family is looking to sell the Seahawks earlier this week, and that they would look to complete the sale after Super Bowl LX. However, the Allen family, which has the controlling interest the franchise, has pushed back against the claims.
“We don’t comment on rumors or speculation, and the team is not for sale,” read a statement from the estate. “We’ve already said that will change at some point per Paul’s wishes, but there is no news to share. Our focus right now is winning the Super Bowl and completing the sale of the Portland Trail Blazers in the coming months.”
NFL not happy
The NFL, it would appear, it not happy at the speed at which things are developing, and has levied a major fine against the organization.
“The Seahawks are now expected to go up for sale shortly after Seattle takes on the New England Patriots next Sunday in Santa Clara, Calif. Behind the scenes, though, frustration from the league was so high that the NFL went as far as issuing the Seahawks a $5 million fine for being out of compliance with ownership requirements, according to people familiar with the matter. The league denied that the team had been fined,” the Wall Street Journal reported.
The Seahawks are valued between $7 and $8 billion, should they get sold after the Super Bowl.
