Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce is now engaged to global pop star Taylor Swift, but even before the pair were engaged, the league made sure to showcase Swift as much as possible in an effort to bring her fans into the NFL community.
Now, the league seems to be taking things a step further. There’s been rampant online speculation that Swift would be the headlining performer for the Super Bowl halftime show this season, but it appears that it’s something the league is actually looking to do, per league commissioner Roger Goodell.
“We would always love to have Taylor play,” he said, according to Awful Announcing. “She is a special, special talent. And obviously, she would be welcome at any time.”
“I can’t tell you anything about that,” Goodell responded after being asked if such a performance was in the works.
Fans reacted to the news on social media.
“Does every halftime show need to be (bad) pop music? Was that the agreement they made with the women and (guys) that took over the halftime show plans? Super bowl is in San Francisco. How about, I don’t know, a local Bay Area band like Metallica…or Green Day?” one fan wrote on Twitter.
“She should NOT perform this year. Everyone will say NFL is scripted to have a TnT Super Bowl. Every flag thrown will be questioned and every Chiefs will be discounted. She can perform in Super Bowl 61 when he is retired,” someone else added.
“Combo halftime show/wedding,” one fan added.
It’ll be interesting to see if the rumors come to fruition.
