You could make the case that the Jacksonville Jaguars are responsible for why Carson Wentz was traded from the Indianapolis Colts to the Washington Commanders this offseason. Wentz will get the chance to say “thank you” in Week 1 of the 2022 NFL season.

While the official unveiling of the new NFL schedule is coming later, JP Finlay of NBC Sports Washington is reporting that the Commanders will open the season at FedEx Field hosting the Jaguars.

In the final week of the NFL season, the Colts merely needed to beat the 2-14 Jaguars to clinch a playoff berth. However, thanks in large part to a terrible performance by Wentz, they lost 26-11 and missed the playoffs despite being loaded with Pro Bowlers. The Colts almost immediately started distancing themselves from Wentz and eventually traded him to Washington. Reports continued to trickle out about Wentz’s poor abilities, with the team owner even saying that trading for him was a “mistake.”

Now, Wentz gets to try to rewrite his story against the team that last defeated him. Not only that but the Jaguars are now coached by Doug Pederson, whom Wentz had a huge falling out with back in 2020 when his time with the Philadelphia Eagles was nearing the end.

The metaphorical value of Wentz’s first game with the Commanders coming against Pederson’s Jaguars was not lost on the NFL world.
