There has been a lot of talk since the New York Jets announced that quarterback Aaron Rodgers would be missing OTA’s for personal reasons.

While most think it’s not a big deal, there are still others who think Rodgers is being a self-entitled, selfish teammate one of those people is Fox Sports 1 host Nick Wright.

Wright called out Rodgers for being a poor teammate and called Rodgers a phony.

“In Aaron’s world, he gave (the Jets) a heads up that he’s a busy guy with important things, which is why he’s such a phony,” Wright said. “Every other player who isn’t at mandatory minicamp, we know why — money. Aaron Rodgers, ah, double booked. (He) had to make a choice. What’s more important? This other event, or the mandatory minicamp that every single one of your teammates will be at, when you are the leader of the team. This wasn’t the last second event, like the birth of a child, those things can be excused. This was, (he) had two things going on in life today, (he) chose the other. That is not sustainable for a veteran, leader quarterback of an NFL team.”

But Wright wasn’t finished dragging Rodgers.

“I know some folks think that any Aaron Rodgers criticism is about a vaccine decision from 4 years (that basically only Aaron still talks about), when in reality it’s about him being one of the phoniest, most disingenuous athletes of our lifetimes,” he said.

Those are some strong words coming from Wright but he’s not alone. This is not new for Rodgers. He has in the past, gone on summer retreats before training camp opens so this shouldn’t be a shock to anyone. It’s the way the Jets handled the situation that is making this whole situation worse and being blown out of proportion.

But Rodgers doesn’t help himself either by doing this. Rather than trying to prove he is fully recovered from his injuries, he is once again putting himself ahead of his team rather than showing as Wright pointed out, his leadership abilities.

Instead of proving to the world that his ready for a comeback, Rodgers of course is putting his needs above that of his team and laying the responsibility squarely on head coach Robert Saleh who has to explain his star quarterback’s absence.

You have to wonder, is it worth it for the Jets? To have one of the greatest quarterbacks of all time on your team, yet at the end of his career with all his baggage.

It might have been had he not gotten injured to begin last season but to see him with injuries and baggage to boot, it may not be all it’s cracked up to be, just ask the Green Bay Packers. They got tired of Rodgers’s demands and antics and went with Jordan Love, which right now looks like the correct choice.

Oh, they took some heat as they did when they let go of Brett Farve, but in the end, it worked out for them and unlike the Jets, their new QB was injury-free and made the playoffs.

Meanwhile, the Jets are left with an aging, injury-prone, self-serving Aaron Rodgers.
