For the past several weeks, Dallas Cowboys team owner and general manager Jerry Jones has been pretty insistent that the Cowboys were likely to sign veteran free agent wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. to provide a boost for the team down the stretch and in the playoffs. But now, Jones seems to be pumping the brakes on that belief.

During an appearance on his regular radio show on 105.3 The Fan, Jerry Jones sounded a lot more pessimistic about the Cowboys’ chances of signing Odell Beckham Jr. ahead of the NFL postseason.

“That time is moving on down the road relative to playing in the playoffs, so every day diminishes our chances of going forward,” Jones said on the radio, according to Dallas Cowboys reporter Todd Archer of ESPN.

This is completely opposite of what Jones said just a few days ago, when he outright said that Odell Beckham Jr. would be joining the Dallas Cowboys at some point.

“Odell’s going to join us,” Jones said on Thursday. “There’s a good chance he will, with the complete goal of getting ready for a playoff game or two, and then I’ll look to the future. But most of it being about now.”

It seems that something changed between now and then, and perhaps that’s what Beckham was alluding to last week with his cryptic Tweets.
