Nike has been hit with a lawsuit by an NFL star receiver. Odell Beckham Jr. has sued the prominent shoe and athletic apparel company.

TMZ reported the news of Beckham Jr.’s new lawsuit against Nike on Monday evening.

TMZ wrote in a tweet, “Odell Beckham Jr. is suing Nike, claiming the Swoosh swindled him out of millions of dollars by suppressing sales of sneakers that would’ve triggered a lucrative contract extension.”

The report from TMZ shined additional light on the situation. It read, “Odell claims once his original Nike deal expired in 2017, he considered jumping ship to Adidas … who offered him a huge contract. Not wanting to lose a marquee talent, Odell says Nike exercised their right to match the Adidas deal. But, he claims the fine print was different … and it wasn’t truly the same deal.”

His relationship with Nike deteriorated, according to Beckham Jr. in March of this year. He claimed via TMZ that “he was due a payment of around $2.6 million. But, he claims, without any warning, the company withheld more than $2 million of the payment.”

Odell believed that the contract’s details caused him to lose over $20 million.

In 2020, NBA star Kawhi Leonard sued the company over the copyrighting of his ‘Klaw’ logo. Leonard lost that legal battle in court. Odell will hope for better success in the courtroom over this issue.
