Amid the rampant speculation about which team might land free agent Odell Beckham Jr. comes this news: OBJ might not be ready to return to action until mid-December, much later than expected.

Pro Football Talk reported Saturday that several team executives say that is a “realistic time frame” for Beckham Jr.’s return from a torn ACL he suffered in the Super Bowl.

That is a month later than the 29-year-old wide receiver’s own timetable. That puts his return as late as Week 15, instead of in the Week 10-11 timeline Beckham Jr. has been targeting. A return around Week 15 could certainly help a team in the postseason, but it might be too late to help a team fighting to make the playoffs.

The Los Angeles Rams have been the presumed favorite to land OBJ, but the Kansas City Chiefs, Buffalo Bills, Green Bay Packers, and New York Giants have all been mentioned as possible destinations, among other teams.

The Pro Football Talk report mentions that Beckham Jr.’s signing could come down to a matter of timing.

“Any team that waits until Beckham is fully 100 percent and ready to go may have waited too long,” the report stated. “But Beckham also should resist rushing a decision, since he has full flexibility to pick the contender he deems to be the most attractive.”
