Green Bay Packers quarterback Blake Bortles (9) participates in minicamp practice Thursday, June 10, 2021, in Green Bay, Wis. Cent02 7g63szzfj8g10no1a71c Original

With the bombshell news on Wednesday that Aaron Rodgers not only isn’t vaccinated but has tested positive for Covid-19, that means the Green Bay Packers are going to be without their MVP quarterback for potentially two games, to say nothing of how this news affects things beyond that.

Adding insult to injury, backup quarterback Kurt Benkert has also tested positive for Covid. That means that all signs point to Jordan Love taking over as starting quarterback on Sunday against the Kansas City Chiefs. However, the Packers aren’t going to put all their faith in Love, and also have to consider the possibility that Love could test positive as well since he was presumably around the other two quarterbacks. That’s why the Packers have also invited a veteran NFL quarterback back to town to potentially step into the role as needed.

According to Adam Schefter, Black Bortles is expected to sign with the Packers today, which would make him eligible to play on Sunday if needed.

It’s not a huge surprise as Bortles was on the Packers’ roster this summer back when it was unclear whether or not Aaron Rodgers would report for camp.

The best part of the story, according to Mark Long, is that Bortles was golfing when he got the call from Green Bay.

Bortles spent five seasons with the Jacksonville Jaguars, where his play on the field didn’t win over too many fans but did lead to him becoming a legend in The Good Place. He spent a little bit of time with the Los Angeles Rams and Denver Broncos in the last couple of seasons and signed with the Packers in May before being released in July.

The return of “The Boat” certainly inspired a lot of reactions on social media.

The Packers take on the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday and while it looks like Love will be the starter, expect to see Bortles on the sidelines ready to step in as needed. What a wild turn of events for everyone involved…
