Quarterback Aaron Rodgers made some very pointed remarks earlier this week about the Green Bay Packers receiving corps and the need for improvement. It appears that the Packers were listening as they’ve waived one wide receiver and brought in a veteran who (very briefly) played for them before.

Early in the day on Wednesday, it was reported that Green Bay signed safety De’Vante Cross and waived wide receiver Malik Taylor in order to make room on their 85-man roster. It’s unknown if Taylor was one of the wide receivers that Rodgers was referring to when he said, amongst other things, “you keep dropping the ball, you’re not going to be out there.”

An undrafted player out of Ferris State, Taylor signed with the Packers in 2019 and spent the year on the practice squad. He made the 53-man roster in 2020, appearing in 15 games and garnering five receptions for 66 yards and one touchdown. He appeared in 10 games for the Packers in 2021, hauling in just two catches for 14 yards. While he signed a one-year exclusive-rights free agent tender with Green Bay this past May, that wasn’t enough to keep him on the roster.

Later in the day, ESPN’s Field Yates reported that the franchise has claimed wide receiver Travis Fulgham off of waivers.

Fulgham was drafted by the Detroit Lions in the sixth round of the 2019 NFL Draft and spent one season with the team before signing with the Packers in 2020. However, Green Bay cut him after nine days and he ended up signing with the Philadelphia Eagles where he made 38 receptions for 539 receiving yards and four touchdowns. Fulgham was released by the Denver Broncos on Tuesday before getting snapped up on Wednesday.

We’ll see if Fulgham brings some veteran expertise to the wideout corps in order to appease Rodgers and help out the rookies.
