The Carolina Panthers had an absolutely embarrassing performance against the Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday afternoon losing 42-21 in a game where the Bengals led 42-7 in the third quarter before inserting backup players into the game. And as a result, it looks like the Panthers are making some pretty significant changes.
On Monday morning, Panthers interim head coach Steve Wilks announced that the team was moving on from cornerbacks coach Evan Cooper and defensive line coach Paul Pasqualoni after the atrocious defensive performance on Sunday.
The move comes after the team was dominated both through the air and on the ground during Sunday’s game. Bengals running back Joe Mixon scored a franchise record five touchdowns in the game – four of which came in the first half – while Joe Burrow completed 22-of-28 passes for 206 yards and one touchdown through the air.
With Cooper now gone, defensive assistant Bobby Maffei and interim defensive coordinator Al Holcomb will both take a more prominent role in coaching the team’s cornerbacks while pass rush specialist Don Johnson and assistant defensive line coach Terrance Knighton be acting as the team’s defensive line coaches.
The team has a chance to get back on track with a game against the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday.
