The Carolina Panthers’ postseason chances took a big hit Saturday as star cornerback Jaycee Horn suffered a serious wrist injury.
Panthers players seem to be preparing for the worst-case scenario. Defensive end Brian Burns said after the game that Horn broke his wrist (via The Athletic’s Joe Person).
ESPN reported that Horn had his right arm in what appeared to be a soft cast and sling after the game.
This was not supposed to be the storyline after the Panthers‘ convincing 37-23 victory against the Detroit Lions in which the team rolled to almost 600 yards in total offense.
At 6-9, incredibly, the Panthers hold their postseason fate in their own hands. But, that task just became much tougher with Horn appearing headed for the sidelines. He’s emerged as one of the NFL’s best shutdown cornerbacks. Many fans and observers around the league were stunned he was left off the Pro Bowl Games roster.
The NFL world quickly reacted to news of Horn’s injury as several fans and personalities let their voice be heard.
“Jaycee a future all pro,” tweeted Jeremy Igo.
“He’s an All Pro this season,” then tweeted another fan. “Who’s been better at cornerback? Who’s given up less catches yardage or a lower passer rating this season?
Jon Sisk then added, “1 Step Forward, 2 Steps Back. Panthers Football.”
Panthers fan Ron Speaks then tweeted, “Wasn’t it Jonathan Stewart who broke his arm a few years ago and still played the next week? Or Thomas Davis?” referencing two former Panthers known for their toughness.
Finally, another fan noted, “Good player with terrible injury luck in his young career.”
