The NFL is constantly evolving as a league, and every offseason, new rule proposals are voted on to advance the game. Recently, the tush push has been a divisive topic of conversation, but it wasn’t voted on this year at the annual owners’ meetings in Arizona, meaning it will remain a legal play for at least the 2026-27 campaign.
However, other rules did go to a vote and changes have been made, including a provision that will allow misses by the officials to be overruled during games when it comes to potential ejections, according to one prominent insider around the league.
“NFL owners have approved a rule change allowing the league to step in and assist on potential disqualifications, whether for flagrant football acts or non-football acts, and initiate a flag if one wasn’t thrown,” reported ESPN’s senior NFL insider Adam Schefter on Tuesday.

“That’s a big step toward consistency. Missed calls can change games, so having the league step in helps keep things fair. The key will be applying it clearly without slowing the flow too much,” someone else added.
