A few weeks back, Brett Favre reportedly filed defamation lawsuits against media personalities Pat McAfee and Shannon Sharpe. as well as Mississippi state auditor Shad White, over the ongoing Mississippi welfare scandal. Favre has denied knowledge that he knew where misspent state welfare funds had come from in spite of text messages and other key information that had been reported on.

“I’m getting sued by Brett Favre,” McAfee said during his last show before Super Bowl LVII. “I’m getting sued alongside Shannon Sharpe and an auditor from Mississippi by Brett ******* Favre. Brett Favre’s suing me in a defamation lawsuit, saying I defamed his name to try to earn a profit.”

McAfee said at the time that he had received two letters from Favre’s New York lawyers warning him of the defamation lawsuit if specific action was not taken.

The podcast host did not, indeed, take any actions, and on Sunday he shared an image of a document showing that he has now officially been served with the lawsuit.

“[McAfee], contrary to what Shannon Sharpe was probably told, ‘this is a good time to keep your mouth shut,’ decided to go on and speak again and make a joke that he doesn’t have a lawyer and that his wife says he’s really terrible about apologizing,” Favre’s lawyer, Eric Herschmann, said last week. “Well, I guarantee you the jury in Mississippi will make certain he learns how to apologize. It’s going to cost Pat McAfee millions of dollars. And if it bankrupts him, then he will have learned his lesson about you don’t try to promote yourself by inappropriately and improperly attacking somebody else.”

Meanwhile, a legal expert recently told Awful Announcing that Favre faces a ‘very high burden’ in proving that he has been defamed.
