Earlier this week, Twitter and its billionaire owner Elon Musk caused quite a stir when the company began to roll back all the legacy “verified” accounts, reserving the iconic blue “verified” check mark for only those who had paid for Twitter Blue – the app’s subscription service that costs $8 a month. As a result, many sports stars lost their verified status – including Kansas City Chiefs star quarterback Patrick Mahomes.

Patrick Mahomes was among the many previously-verified Twitter users that lost their blue check mark status this week, and he Tweeted his displeasure to Elon Musk as a result.

“@elonmusk let me get my blue check back!” Mahomes said in a tweet, adding three crying laughing emojis to the end of the tweet for comedic effect.

It was pretty clear from the message he posted on Twitter that Mahomes had no intention of paying for his verified status, but it appears that his criticism worked.

On Saturday, Mahomes was once again given his blue check mark as Twitter returned his “verified” status.

“Appreciate it @elonmusk,” Mahomes said in a tweet after his blue check was returned.

It’s worth noting that Mahomes was not the only major celebrity who had his blue check mark returned. It appears the vast majority of previously-verified accounts that had over 1 million followers were once again verified on Saturday.
