Patrick Mahomes doesn’t make many ridiculous mistakes.
But the Kansas City Chiefs quarterback made a memorable gaffe late in the third quarter of the AFC Championship against the Cincinnati Bengals that left fans laughing.
Mahomes took a snap on first down and quickly turned to pass — only to have the football slip out of his hands and soar high in the air.

The star quarterback could not have picked a worst time for his first career postseason fumble. Many NFL fans couldn’t wait to roast Mahomes on Twitter for the uncharacteristic mistake.
“I won’t watch, so someone tell me how Nik Rite explains away that brutal Patrick Mahomes fumble. If that was Josh Allen he’d be taken out to pasture,” tweeted Greg Vorse.

Some fans pointed out that if this were another quarterback, say, Dak Prescott, the reactions would be brutal.
“Patrick Mahomes missing open guys to convert on 3rd down… ball slipping out of his hand for a fumble in a huge playoff game… I need to see slander for him like Dak gets,” tweeted Brooks White.

This is obviously not a play that will end up on Mahomes’ career highlight reel.
The mistake was huge, as well, as the Bengals recovered and proceeded to march down for a touchdown to tie the score at 20 early in the fourth quarter.
