Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes is dealing with some difficult personal news this week as his father, Pat Mahomes Sr., has been arrested once again and could face up to 10 years in prison.
According to multiple reports, Mahomes, 55, was arrested and jailed this week for allegedly violating the terms of his probation.
Mahomes, a former Major League Baseball pitcher, is serving five years’ probation for a DWI incident on Feb. 3, 2024, in Smith County, Texas, just eight days before his son’s Super Bowl LVIII win.
Following the incident, Mahomes was sentenced for a third-offense DWI charge.
District attorney Jacob Putnam told CBS 19 and other outlets that Mahomes violated the terms of his probation by allegedly drinking alcohol.
It’s worth noting, however, that lab tests later came up negative for alcohol despite an ankle monitor reading on New Year’s Day.
“A probation violation report reveals his probation officer was notified on Jan. 5 that Pat Mahomes had a high alcohol reading on his alcohol ankle monitor on Jan. 1 (New Year’s Day). But when he submitted a urine analysis on Jan. 5, the lab report came back negative for alcohol at the time. Another urine test taken on Jan. 9 came back negative for alcohol as well,” CBS 19 reported.
“According to officials, a motion was filed to revoke their probation following the alleged violation. Pat Mahomes was taken into custody by Smith County probation officers earlier Tuesday morning. He can contest the allegations.”
As a result of the alleged parole violation, Mahomes faces up to 10 years in prison.
Needless to say, this is difficult personal news for Mahomes as he has continually dealt with his father’s alcohol-related arrests over the years.
