Kansas City Chiefs star quarterback Patrick Mahomes is facing some tough personal circumstances this week after his father, Pat Mahomes Sr., was arrested again and could be staring at a potential 10-year prison sentence.

Multiple reports indicate that Mahomes Sr., 55, was taken into custody and jailed this week for allegedly violating the conditions of his probation.

The former Major League Baseball pitcher is currently serving five years of probation for a DWI incident on Feb. 3, 2024, which came just eight days before his son led the Chiefs to a Super Bowl LVIII victory.

Following that incident, Mahomes Sr. was sentenced on a third-offense DWI charge.

Smith County district attorney Jacob Putnam told CBS 19 and other media outlets that the alleged probation violation stemmed from claims that Mahomes consumed alcohol.

However, subsequent lab testing appeared to contradict those allegations, as tests reportedly showed no alcohol in his system despite an alert from his ankle monitor on New Year’s Day.

“A probation violation report reveals his probation officer was notified on Jan. 5 that Pat Mahomes had a high alcohol reading on his alcohol ankle monitor on Jan. 1 (New Year’s Day). But when he submitted a urine analysis on Jan. 5, the lab report came back negative for alcohol at the time. Another urine test taken on Jan. 9 came back negative for alcohol as well,” CBS 19 reported.

“According to officials, a motion was filed to revoke their probation following the alleged violation. Pat Mahomes was taken into custody by Smith County probation officers earlier Tuesday morning. He can contest the allegations.”

If the alleged probation violation is upheld, Mahomes Sr. could face a prison sentence of up to 10 years.

Needless to say, this is pretty horrible news for the Mahomes family, and it led to a lot of reactions on social media.

“I still have no idea how Patrick Mahomes (II) is normal,” one person wrote in a post on X.

“Super Bowl Tradition I didn’t see coming,” someone else wrote.

“Death, Taxes and Patrick Mahomes Sr. arrest to kick off every Super Bowl week,” another fan wrote.

“Man, this guy just can’t get right,” someone else added.

“Feels like he gets arrested every Super Bowl week,” another fan wrote.

Unsurprisingly, this development represents another challenging moment for Patrick Mahomes, who has repeatedly had to navigate the fallout from his father’s ongoing alcohol-related legal issues over the years.
