For the past few years, Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes has been the face of the Chiefs team as a player. And now, he’s looking to become part of another sports team as an owner.

According to a report from Meg Linehan of The Athletic, Patrick Mahomes is joining the ownership group of the Kansas City Current, the National Women’s Soccer League team based in Kansas City. With this decision, Mahomes will be the first active NFL player to have equity in an NWSL team. He also joins his wife, Brittany Mahomes, in the investment as has been a founding owner alongside Chris and Angie Long.

This is not the first Kansas City sports team or club in which Mahomes has an ownership stake. The Kansas City Chiefs star quarterback is also is a part owner of the Kansas City Royals of Major League Baseball. Last summer, Mahomes also joined the ownership group of Sporting Kansas City, the MLS club in the city.

With these major moves, it’s clear that Mahomes intends to make an impact on the sporting leagues throughout Kansas City not just as an athlete on the field, but as a business person behind the scenes.
