The NFL announced recently that they are open to teams playing two Thursday night games since these games have become popular.

But when Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes heard the news, he was not happy. Mahomes posted a picture of a facepalm on Twitter to show his displeasure with the idea, which got Commissioner Roger Goodell’s attention and he offered this explanation.

“I don’t think we’re putting Amazon (Thursday Night Football broadcasters) over our players. …The data doesn’t show a higher injury rate,” Goodell said following Mahomes’ reaction. “I hear from players who also love the 10 days after a Thursday Night game. We have to try to balance all of it.”

Most NFL players weren’t pleased when the league decided to add a few more games to the schedule and most probably won’t be pleased with having the option of playing two Thursday night games this season.

Tom Brady said back in 2018 that the league extending the season was ridiculous.

“It’s pointless, I thought it was a terrible decision,” Brady said.

“I think 16 is plenty. And, again, you’re eight games into the year and you’re not halfway through, so that’s kind of a little frustrating aspect. So whatever, I mean, we’ll play it. It’s there.”

Brady’s comments have turned out to be prolific especially this past season when we saw two horrific injuries to Tua Tag0vailoa and Damar Hamlin, which you wonder if they would have taken place if the NFL had a shorter season.
