The New England Patriots pulled off what feels like a culture-changing upset on national television on Sunday night, when they defeated the NFL’s last remaining unbeaten team, the Buffalo Bills.
Young quarterback Drake Maye was lights out in the second half, throwing only a single incompletion. However, Maye and the Pats got some devastating news on the injury front on Monday that will certainly make things harder as the season continues to stretch out.
“Patriots RB Antonio Gibson, who was quickly ruled out on Sunday night, tore his ACL and is out for the season, sources say after the MRI. A hit to RB depth,” NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported.
Fans reacte to the brutal news on social media.
“Gibby made a huge difference in his 5 games this year, and all of last. We’ll miss him and are rooting for his full and fast recovery,” one fan wrote on Twitter.
“Well I’m temporarily glad I held on to Stevenson. Hopefully his two TD rushes yesterday helped to offset the fumble and he still gets touches moving forward,” another person added.
“I wish they had a talented RB on the roster they spent good draft capital on that could step in. It’s clear they do not,” someone else wrote.
It’ll be interesting to see how the rest of the season goes for Maye and New England.
