One Patriots fan managed to accomplish a feat on Monday many New Englanders can only dream about — flipping off NFL commissioner Roger Goodell.

This particular fan’s act deserves some special recognition. This was not some run-of-the-mill jeer. This was a carefully planned and executed ambush.

When Patriots fan Jim Podanoffsky spotted Goodell at the Jim Kelly Golf Tournament in Batavia, New York, he saw his opportunity and capitalized. Podanoffsky quickly gained Goodell’s trust, enough for the commissioner to pose for a picture anyway, and then when Goodell was vulnerable, he struck.

Sure, it’s a juvenile act, but it is really hard to not crack a smile when you see an unwitting Goodell obviously cheesing away while Podanoffsky flashes that shit-eating grin of a lifetime right above his extended middle finger.

Goodell is public enemy No. 1 to Patriots fans for his role in the Deflategate saga and he has done little to repair that relationship. In fact, while at the same golf tournament, Goodell told reporters that a settlement between New England quarterback Tom Brady and the league is unlikely at this point. He said the final judgment will be up to the courts.

The Patriots may be without their quarterback for the first four games of next season, but at least one fan can say he got a small bit of revenge.
