On Tuesday, the New England Patriots placed cornerback J.C. Jackson on the reserve/non-football illness list.
Earlier in the week, Jackson’s agent told ESPN that the cornerback was dealing with “mental health issues.”

After spending time with the Florida Gators and Maryland Terrapins in college, Jackson originally signed with the Patriots in 2018 as an undrafted free agent.
Jackson won Super Bowl LIII with the Patriots in his rookie season when New England came away with a 13-3 win over the Los Angeles Rams. He stayed with New England through the 2021 season, when he had a career-high eight interceptions and was named to the Pro Bowl for the first time.
Jackson left New England for the Los Angeles Chargers in the spring of 2022, signing a five-year contract. Jackson played just seven games for the Chargers, as a ruptured patella tendon cost him most of the 2022 season. After just one month of the 2023 season, the Chargers traded Jackson back to New England after concerns about his attitude and effort level.
On Sunday, Jackson was on the sideline of New England’s loss to the Kansas City Chiefs but did not play. Patriots coach Bill Belichick wouldn’t go further than saying the corner wasn’t available in his postgame comments.
