There’s a quarterback controversy brewing in the New England Patriots backfield, but not everyone on the squad seems undecided about who their starter should be.
While Bill Belichick takes the summer to figure out whether or not he should start Mac Jones or Bailey Zappe, linebacker Josh Uche already knows who the starting quarterback should be.
“When it comes to Mac, I love Mac. I mean, he’s a competitor. Somebody who I’ve gone to war with and practiced with,” Uche said, via NFL.com. “I’ve seen his work ethic and his tenacity. I think he’s a dog. That’s me personally, having worked with Mac and knowing what I know about him. Listen, he’s a dog. That’s all I can say, man. He’s our quarterback.”
It’ll be pretty interesting to see how the Patriots handle the situation. After leading the Patriots to the playoffs as a rookie, Jones regressed last season and there were a lot of grumblings about how teammates didn’t appreciate the effort he was giving.
Meanwhile, Zappe became a fan favorite in relief of Jones. The current backup said recently he plans to compete for the starting role if possible.
“If my opportunity presents itself, I’m going to take full advantage of it,” Zappe said last week. “I’m going to do everything I can to help the team win.
