The New England Patriots of the 1980s are back.

The NFL’s policy change for the team uniforms now allows teams to have alternate helmets, which has allowed many of them to make alternate uniform decisions for the upcoming 2022 season.

The New England Patriots announced their alternate jerseys in an awesome way on Wednesday, making a video featuring the Delorean from the hit movie “Back to the Future,” followed by shots of the players in their throwback red uniforms.

The team will be bringing back its red uniforms that were last worn in 2012 but were a staple of the franchise from 1960 to 1993.

Many around the NFL world are not only happy about the team bringing back these classic uniforms, but are also impressed with the team doing it with creative homage to “Back to the Future”.

The video announcement was an extremely clever way of bringing back the retro uniforms. It is a prime example of how other NFL teams should handle their announcements on social media.

New England has not yet announced when these uniforms will be worn, but there will surely be some sort of announcement soon beforehand in order to capitalize on the interest.  A 2013 rule change saw these uniforms go away as every team was only allowed to wear one helmet, but these were always a favorite for Patriots fans.

The team has also had success with these uniforms after they stopped wearing them full-time, sporting a 9-3 record in this gear between 1994 and 2012, so they may bring some success in 2022 too.
