The New England Patriots are bringing back legendary tight end Rob Gronkowski, but only for one day.
Gronkowski, arguably the greatest and most dominant tight end in the history of the game, has decided to sign a one-day contract with the New England Patriots in order to retire as a member of that team.
The tight end announced the news himself on Fox over the weekend.
“Here’s some news for everyone,” Gronkowski said on Fox on Sunday. “I am signing a one-day contract with the Patriots this week, coming up, to retire as a Patriot and be a Patriot for life.”
Gronk even called out legendary teammate Tom Brady a little bit.
“But I know Tom, and he is still bitter the Patriots let him go for his final three seasons in the NFL, so he’s secretly rooting for the Buccaneers,” Gronkowski said.
Brady, of course, spent his final three seasons with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, ultimately retiring as a member of the Buccaneers, not the Patriots.
Although Gronkowski retired from the league after playing in Tampa Bay in 2020 and 2021, he has decided to retire as a member of the Patriots, where he built his legacy.
During his time in New England, Gronkowski became a four-time first-team All-Pro, won three Super Bowl rings, and established himself as one of the best tight ends in NFL history.
Needless to say, the Patriots will be happy to have him back for this one day.
