On Thursday night, the Indianapolis Colts selected Florida Gators star quarterback Anthony Richardson with the No. 4 overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft. And if they didn’t, it sounds like there’s a strong chance the Seattle Seahawks would have taken him at No. 5.

This week, Seattle Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll was asked if his team would have considered selecting Anthony Richardson with the No. 5 overall pick had he been available. And it sure sounds like it would have at least been a serious conversation.

“We considered him,” Carroll said according to Michael-Shawn Dugar of TheAthletic.com. “Shoot, we flew all the way out there to go see him. Not just to see him but to be around him and watch him and how he handled himself, and his program with all the hype that was going. We gave him tremendous consideration. He might be the best athlete that’s ever been drafted at that position. He’s arguably that. So, we had to definitely consider that.”

Obviously, the Seahawks didn’t get the chance to select him and instead selected Illinois cornerback Devon Witherspoon with the No. 5 overall pick. However, calling Richardson perhaps “the best athlete that’s ever been drafted at that position” is certainly some bold praise.
