More than a month after nearly drowning while rescuing his children from the ocean, former NFL running back Peyton Hillis has issued his first public statement on the matter.

The former Madden cover boy and ex-running back of the Denver Broncos, Cleveland Browns, Kansas City Chiefs, Tampa Bay Buccaneers and New York Giants sent out a tweet on Tuesday, with the caption, “Thank you all for your love and prayers.”

That was followed by a lengthy statement of gratitude.

“I just wanted to come here and thank everyone for all the prayers and love y’all have given me. It’s really made all the difference,” Hillis said, in part.

“I haven’t taken interviews on this because I’d like to keep my family out of the public eye because it was a very traumatic time for us. But I did want to come on here and show my appreciation for everyone who helped saved my life and for all of your prayers and support. I left the hospital with no worries and concerns and should make a 100% recovery. I am a very lucky and blessed man. Yaweh has really blessed me and I am very thankful,” he added, in conclusion.

The Browns responded to Hillis’ tweet with two hearts.

Others had similar sentiments.
