The Philadelphia Eagles made a major commitment to quarterback Jalen Hurts on Monday, signing the franchise player to a five-year, $255 million contract extension that makes him the highest-paid paid player in NFL history.

NFL Network insiders Ian Rapoport and Tom Pelissero broke the news.

The Eagles also ensured that Hurts will be an Eagle for as long as he wants, as the franchise included its first-ever no-trade clause in the massive new deal.

“The no-trade clause is the first in #Eagles history — a sign both of their faith in him as their franchise QB and Howie Roseman’s commitment to getting the deal done,” Rapoport wrote in a tweet.

Hurts started his football career at Channelview High School in Texas where he evolved into a four-star recruit as one of the top dual-threat quarterbacks in the country.

Hurts snubbed nearby Texas A&M for the University of Alabama. Hurts started at Alabama in the second game of his freshman season—the first freshman QB to start for the tide in 32 years.

Hurts eventually lost the starting job to Tua Tagovailoa, who led the Crimson Tide in their come-from-behind national title win over the Clemson Tigers in 2023.

Hurts then transferred to Oklahoma where he won Big 12 Offensive Player of the Year in 2019 before the Eagles drafted him with the 53rd overall pick of the second round in the 2020 NFL Draft.
