Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts silenced his detractors when the Eagles defeated the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl LIX, and he left the game with Super Bowl MVP honors.
Hurts and the Eagles opened training camp looking to start the long climb back to the top of the mountain. Unfortunately, they got some devastating news on the injury front on Thursday. One of the players that Hurts would be counting on the most over the season is out for the year, according to one prominent Eagles insider.
“Eagles WR Johnny Wilson will undergo season-ending surgery on his knee and ankle after suffering the injury at practice on Tuesday, NFL sources said,” Jeff McLane reported.
Fans reacted to the news on social media.
“Surely makes the Metchie trade look like a better insurance option though I think Wilson would have been behind him anyway had he been health,” one fan wrote on Twitter.
“Damn. Was hoping to see him make a leap this season at WR (cuz we know the Eagles love he can block lol) hope he has a speedy recovery,” one fan added.
“Johnny was really coming on too. Hate this for the kid. His blocking provides sneaky value. You can look up plenty of big plays from last season and find Johnny downfield making a key block,” another fan added.
It’ll be interesting to see how the Eagles replace Wilson’s production.
