Fletcher Cox is one of the few remaining members of the Philadelphia Eagles 2018 Super Bowl championship team. But his ten-year tenure with the team seems to be coming to an end.

Reports have come out on Thursday that the Eagles are releasing Cox, with a post-June 1st designation.

This move seems to be a pure salary cap move by the Eagles, as they will free up $18 million that would have been guaranteed to Cox if he wasn’t released before 4 pm on Thursday.

Cox has been extremely productive for the Eagles over the years, and the team could reportedly bring him back if Cox wanted to return on a smaller deal this offseason.

This news has led to a ton of reactions around the NFL world with many fans loving the possibility of Cox on their favorite team. That included former teammate Zach Ertz seemingly recruiting Cox to come to the Arizona Cardinals.

Given Cox’s huge contract number at an advanced age, it makes some sense that the Eagles would make this move. But it’s still notable that Cox is now available.

It remains to be seen whether or not the Eagles will be able to convince Cox to stay on a smaller deal. He will certainly be a huge get for anyone that is able to bring him in next season.
