If Pittsburgh Steelers fans expected a quarterback competition between Mitch Trubisky and rookie Kenny Pickett, they might be disappointed.
Reports out of camp have Trubisky ahead in this quarterback battle, at least so far. Steelers beat reporter Dale Lolle has said the “competition will be more for show than substance.”

It shouldn’t be a shock to many. Trubisky, 27, is a veteran quarterback who started for three years with the Chicago Bears, then was a backup in Buffalo last year before being picked up by the Steelers this offseason.
Perhaps being a backup to Josh Allen helped Trubisky improve and get closer to being the signal-caller that everyone expected when he came out of North Carolina.
Trubisky has also received high marks on his throws from Pittsburgh wide receiver George Pickens.
“He’s been one of the quarterbacks to release it for sure,” Pickens said during Steelers’ mandatory OTAs. “Throw it down the field. A lot of the guys been trying to get with the program, which is totally fine, you only have so many reps. But yeah, he’s been launching it.”
That’s high praise for a guy who was heavily criticized while he was with the Bears. But perhaps this is the year Trubisky is ready to prove his critics wrong.
