Both Russell Wilson and Justin Fields started games for the Pittsburgh Steelers last season, but with both quarterbacks entering free agency, it was pretty clear that the team was only going to be able to bring one of them back. And as free agency begins, it sounds like they have officially lost one of them.

According to NFL insider Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network, Pittsburgh Steelers have lost Justin Fields to free agency as the veteran quarterback has signed a two-year deal to take over as the new starting quarterback for the New York Jets.

“The #Jets are signing QB Justin Fields, per me and @TomPelissero, as Gang Green gets a new starter. Fields says goodbye to Pittsburgh after 1 year,” Rapoport said in a post on X, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter.

“He gets a 2-year deal worth $40M with $30M guaranteed,” Rapoport added.

Fields spent his first three seasons with the Chicago Bears after being selected in the first round of the 2021 NFL Draft, but the Bears replaced him last season by drafting Caleb Williams, the former Heisman Trophy winner, with the No. 1 overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft.

After losing his starting spot in Chicago, Fields signed with the Pittsburgh Steelers but ultimately lost the job to Russell Wilson. However, Fields still had the opportunity to start six games while Wilson was injured, leading the team to a 4-2 record during that time, with 10 touchdowns and just one interception.

Despite his strong showing for the Steelers, it sounds like he will be continuing his NFL career elsewhere.
