When Russell Wilson signed a one-year deal with the Pittsburgh Steelers this offseason, it seemed like it was just a chance for him to prove that he could still be a starting quarterback in the NFL after two disappointing seasons with the Denver Broncos, with very little commitment from the Steelers. But it sounds like the Steelers are actually more committed to Wilson than most people previously thought.

According to a report from Gerry Dulac of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, the Steelers are not just planning to give Russell Wilson a one-year trial year. Instead, they’re planning to sign him to a longer contract following the 2024 NFL season.

“Russell Wilson signed a one-year contract with the Steelers for the vet minimum because the Broncos were paying him $39 million in 2024. But Wilson and the Steelers intend to do a longer deal at the end of the season, per sources,” Dulac said in a post on X, the social media website that was formerly known as Twitter.

Obviously, this is pretty insane news that the team is planning to commit to Wilson given how much he’s struggled in the past two seasons, and it led to a lot of reactions on social media.

We’ll have to see how Wilson performs this season, and if the Steelers choose to follow through with this plan.
