The Las Vegas Raiders and veteran quarterback Derek Carr have been expected to officially part ways for quite some time now. Carr revealed earlier this week that he would not waive his no-trade clause for any team, leaving the Raiders no choice but to ultimately release him. That is exactly what they are reportedly set to do on Tuesday.

According to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, the Raiders are expected to release Carr on Tuesday. This will come before Tuesday’s deadline which would have made the Raiders responsible for $40 million in fully guaranteed money.

This allows Carr to hit the open market and potentially sign with any team. He and the New Orleans Saints have met on numerous occasions and are likely the favorite to eventually sign Carr.

Other teams like the Tampa Bay Buccaneers — after Tom Brady’s retirement earlier this month — may also be interested. The New York Jets could seek out signing Carr if they miss out on the Aaron Rodgers sweepstakes.

The four-time Pro-Bowler ultimately saw his starting role on the Raiders disappear after a disappointing season despite the acquisition of former college teammate receiver Davante Adams.

His individual stats suffered this past season despite an increase in talent around him, throwing a career-high 14 interceptions.

If Carr does ultimately join the Saints, he could be in a prime position to win right away in what was a historically bad NFC South division in the 2022-23 NFL season.
