For the second time in the last five weeks, the Baltimore Ravens have released running back Justin Forsett. This time, the parting appears permanent, as Forsett described the move as “mutual.”

In three games this season, Forsett rushed for 98 yards on 31 carries. He was benched last week against Oakland, and third-year back Terrance West took with a promising start, taking 21 carries for 113 yards and one touchdown. The Ravens are also expected to get rookie running back Kenneth Dixon back from injury this week.

“It was mutual,” Forsett told the Ravens’ official website. “I felt like my opportunity here was closing. I’m at a phase in my career where I don’t want to sit; I want to play. I have a lot of football left in me.”

Baltimore released Forsett on Sept. 3 to make room for defensive lineman Carl Davis and safety Matt Elam on the team’s initial 53-man roster. After putting both players on the injured reserve at the start of the season, the Ravens re-signed Forsett to a two-year deal.

Forsett, a 30-year-old journeyman, spent five years as a backup for Seattle, Houston and Jacksonville before exploding in his first season with Baltimore in 2014, when he rushed for 1,529 yards and made the Pro Bowl.
