Reggie Bush won the Heisman Trophy in 2005 while at USC, but later had to give it back as part of a larger scandal at the school. 11 years after winning college football’s highest honor, Bush finished the 2016 regular season with the Buffalo Bills… and had -3 rushing yards.
We’re not talking -3 rushing yards for one game, but for the entire season on 12 carries. That makes Bush the first non-quarterback with 10-plus carries to finish a season with negative yards since 1970. Ouch.
And while setting that record hurt, the deeper burn would later come from a Steve Gleason tweet.
Gleason was sadly diagnosed with ALS in 2011 and his long public fight against ALS was made into a documentary titled Gleason. Before Gleason’s battle with the disease, he was Reggie Bush’s teammate with the New Orleans Saints in 2006 and 2007.
So, Gleason meant the following tweet in good fun, but it’s still trolling Bush hard:
BREAKING: Steve Gleason @TeamGleason had more rushing yards than Reggie Bush this season. https://t.co/YXiRGHlND3

And here is the tweet Gleason was quote tweeting:

Paging Reggie Bush? Paging Reggie Bush! Someone please check on REGGIE BUSH! That one really has to sting.
On September 25, 2006, Bush and Gleason were part of a very emotional Saints game when they played the Atlanta Falcons in New Orleans’ first home game after Hurricane Katrina. In the first quarter, Gleason blocked a punt that was recovered in the Falcons’ end zone by Curtis Deloatch for the first Saints touchdown in New Orleans in almost 21 months.
The two share a strong bond of being on one of the more emotional NFL teams of all-time, with what the Saints meant to that city. Gleason of course mentioned the love in the air between the former teammates after he teased Bush:
I really like Reggie.
