The Cleveland Browns have had an extremely frustrating start to the 2025 campaign. Cleveland is 1-3 through the first four games of the season, and the play from veteran quarterback Joe Flacco has not been up to par.
Flacco’s young teammate, rookie quarterback Shedeur Sanders, made it clear to reporters last week that he feels he has more to offer than some of the other quarterbacks around the league, and it’s difficult to imagine he wasn’t including Flacco in that group of struggling pass throwers.
“I know if you see the quarterback play in the league right now, I know I’m capable of doing better than that,” Sanders told reporters.
However, one former NFL head coach and current media member doesn’t want to hear it from the rookie.
“Something’s missing with this kid. This kid talks, and he runs his mouth. Like he said, ‘I can be a starting quarterback’ with his arms crossed like this,” ESPN analyst Rex Ryan said, according to Awful Announcing.
“Get your ass in the front row and study and do all that. If I know, the whole league knows. Quit being an embarrassment that way. You’ve got the talent to be the quarterback; you should be. You should be embarrassed that you’re not the quarterback now.”
Fans reacted to Ryan’s statement on social media.
“Rex Ryan telling others to stop being an embarrassment is as ironic as it gets,” one fan wrote on Twitter.
“Rex goes on the weirdest rants. Out of all the things to hit this morning he goes after the third string Browns QB. The Browns barely even have a QB,” someone else added.
“Guess the old adage… It takes one to know one” Never was applied better here,” another fan added.
It’ll be interesting to see if Sanders responds to Ryan’s harsh words.
