The Dallas Cowboys are in need of a new defensive coordinator following the departure of former coordinator Dan Quinn left the team to become the new head coach of the Washington Commanders. And it sounds like the Cowboys are considering another former NFL head coach to replace him.
According to a report from NFL insider Josina Anderson of CBS Sports, the Dallas Cowboys have interviewed former NFL head coach and current ESPN analyst Rex Ryan.
“New: I’m told former #Jets and #Bills head coach Rex Ryan interviewed for the #Cowboys vacant defensive coordinator job, per sources,” Anderson said in a post on X, the social media website that was formerly known as Twitter.

This is obviously a significant move from the Cowboys, and the NFL world had a lot to say about it on social media as a result.

Rex would do great in Dallas. Selfishly hope he doesn’t end up going because I’ll miss his appearances on @ESPNNY98_7FM and on TV. https://t.co/PljyhWO1Lo

Ryan, who was the head coach of the New York Jets for six years from 2009 to 2014, last coached in the NFL during the 2016 season when he was the head coach of the Buffalo Bills. Since then, he has served as a studio analyst for ESPN.
It will certainly be interesting to see whether or not the Cowboys decide to hire Ryan for the role.
