Rex Ryan

Earlier this month, surprising news surfaced that the Denver Broncos and new head coach Sean Payton were considering former New York Jets and Buffalo Bills head coach Rex Ryan for their defensive coordinator position, bringing Ryan in for an interview last week. And now it looks like those talks have heated up a little bit.

According to NFL insider Adam Schefter of ESPN, Rex Ryan had a second interview with the Denver Broncos on Saturday, indicating that he might be one of the top candidates for the job.

“Former Jets and Bills HC and current ESPN analyst Rex Ryan interviewed Saturday in Denver for the Broncos DC job. Ryan and former Broncos HC Vance Joseph are amongst a handful of candidates for the job; Ryan has told ESPN he would only leave the network ‘for the perfect situation,'” Schefter said in a tweet.

It’s pretty big news, and the NFL world had plenty to say about it on Twitter.

Despite the offensive struggles, the Broncos actually had one of the top defenses in the NFL last season, so it would certainly be an advantageous job if Ryan was interested in getting back into coaching. But it remains unclear if he will get the job or if he will take it.
