Tom Brady shocked the NFL world yet again on Tuesday when news broke that he would join Fox as their No. 1 booth analyst whenever his playing career is officially over.
Of course, given the way Brady flip-flops over the end of his career, that could be next season or it could be two years from now. Maybe even further off, who knows.
Whenever it happens, Rich Eisen has a pretty clear idea of which team he’d love to see Brady have to cover in his first game as a broadcaster.
“As you know, there are production meetings before the games that the broadcasters take part in where they meet with the coaches and the quarterbacks,” said Eisen on his show Tuesday. “I can only hope that when Brady does retire, the first game on FOX is at New England … where he’s in the booth there in New England, and he has a production meeting with [Bill] Belichick and Mac Jones.”
That is a pretty perfect scenario and a great way to get the most out of the buzz surrounding Brady’s debut as possible. It also might be pretty hard to pull off considering Fox has the rights to NFC games, which makes the odds that they’ll have access to a New England Patriots game in Week 1 very unlikely, especially at home.
Of course, having him call a Tampa Bay Buccaneers game, which is much more likely to be possible, also works, though not quite in the same way.
Most likely, it’ll depend on which game gets pegged as the No. 1 broadcast option that week by Fox. Considering it’s the season-opener, it might include the defending Super Bowl champs. We’ll just have to wait and see. But sooner or later, Eisen will get his wish and we can’t wait to see Brady the broadcaster calling a Bill Belichick-coached game.
