Lamar Jackson has taken a lot of criticism for his decision not to play in Sunday’s Wild Card matchup against the Cincinnati Bengals. But former NFL quarterback and current ESPN analyst Robert Griffin III is not among those criticizing the Baltimore Ravens quarterback. During Sunday’s game, Griffin shared his all too relatable feelings regarding Jackson’s situation.

Griffin took to social media to relate to Jackson’s situation, remembering when he was a starting quarterback and played through an injury, further aggravating that injury which has a profound impact on his once-promising career.

“This is why you don’t just put a brace on it and play. Played with no ACL and LCL for my brothers/team. Changed the trajectory of my career. Hindsight is 20/20. I didn’t have the luxury of that. Lamar does. He is doing the right thing,” tweeted Griffin along with the infamous image of his knee going out on him.

Griffin’s injury occurred similarly in the Wild Card round of the playoffs in 2013 after playing through an LCL sprain in the same knee he injured.

He was never the same after this injury, so if anyone can speak to the concerns that Jackson likely has in returning to action, it would be Robert Griffin.

Jackson’s situation is slightly different, as he perhaps has even more risk in a potential return for the Ravens as he is set to become a free agent at the end of the season.

It is easy to say that Lamar Jackson should come back and try to play for Baltimore with a chance of potentially making it to a Super Bowl.

Stories like Griffin’s speak to what can happen if you choose to play at less than 100 percent in the NFL, and Jackson rightfully wants no part of that kind of potential long-term injury.
