The Washington Commanders, fresh off Sunday’s loss to the Tennessee Titans, are mired in fourth place in the NFC East at 1-4.

Carson Wentz completed 25 of his 38 passes for 359 yards, two touchdowns and an interception. He was also sacked three times. The performance apparently wasn’t good enough for his head coach, Ron Rivera, who had a brutally honest answer Monday when asked the reason for his team’s last-place rank within the division:

“Ron Rivera was asked why the other three teams in the NFC East are better than the Washington Commanders right now.His answer: ‘Quarterback,'” reported Ralph Vacchiano.
The NFL world was quick to react to Rivera’s candor:

“Ron Rivera out here letting the world know that Cooper Rush is better than Carson Wentz,” tweeted JJ Zachariason.

“This is such a lame answer from Ron Rivera. The Commanders TRADED for Carson Wentz. They made that decision. They chose to make this bed and lie in it. Taking some accountability would be cool,” said RJ Ochoa.

“If you think the difference between the 4-1 Daniel Jones-led Giants/4-1 Cooper Rush-led Cowboys and the 1-4 Commanders is at quarterback, I don’t know what to tell you,” Wendell Ferreira said.

“That tracks,” Patrick Finley tweeted.

“The Carson Wentz Experience is going swimmingly,” James Tyler said.

The Commanders traded for Wentz in March 2022. They’re next in action Sunday, when they travel to Illinois to face the Chicago Bears in NFC play.
