On Monday, the Washington Commanders officially decided to part ways with head coach Ron Rivera after his four seasons with the team. And as a result, Rivera released a statement where he expressed his gratitude for the chance to lead the team.
In his statement, Ron Rivera was sure to thank the Washington Commanders fans for their unwavering support of the team despite a lot of recent changes.
“Through all the name changes, roster moves, non-football headlines and seasons that did not meet your expectations, you still stood by this team. We did win an NFC East title in 2020, but we fell short since then and for that, I am truly disappointed,” Rivera said in the statement according to Pro Football Talk. “You are loyal, passionate fans and I only see good things ahead for you all.”
Rivera also expressed his support for new team owner Josh Harris, even despite the new owner choosing to fire him after this season.
“It was evident from the very moment we met that you are going to be a great steward for this team,” Rivera said. “You have already shown the fans your full commitment to rebuilding this franchise and renewing the unshakable bonds between this team and the entire Washington community. I am lucky to have known you and Washington is lucky to have you.”
Even though Rivera’s time with the team has come to an end, it’s clear that this team still holds a big place in his heart.
