This past season, Russell Wilson showed that he still has what it takes to help lead a team to the postseason with the Pittsburgh Steelers. But it now seems like his time in Pittsburgh could shortly be coming to an end.
Wilson and the Steelers quite clearly had their limitations offensively. But at the same time, Wilson brought a sense of experience and back class that certainly had the Steelers offense operating at a steady level while also taking care of the football.
It seems like Wilson has similar concerns about how far he can take the current Steelers roster. According to Aditi Kinkhabwala of CBS Sports, Wilson is unlikely to resign with the Steelers for the 2025 season.
“Everything I’ve been told from people IN the building is that Russell Wilson will not be re-signing with the Steelers,” said Kinkhabwala during an appearance on 93.7 The Fan in Pittsburgh.

It’s fair to question whether the Steelers potentially have their own reservations about bringing back Wilson as well. Speaking to that, Steelers beat writer Mark Kaboly outlined in his own appearance on 93.7 The Fan on Wednesday that he believes that the Steelers would prefer to bring back Justin Fields over bringing back Wilson.
“I think they’re waiting to see what kind of answer they get from Justin Fields,” said Kaboly. “And while they wait for him, they got to pretend. And I say pretend like they are interested in everybody just in case Justin Fields does not want to come here to gets a better offer somewhere else. It’s always been Justin. I think he’s our number one priority. But you can’t put all your eggs in your basket. Justin Fields is the guy they want.”
Clearly, Wilson still had something left in the tank this past. But at 36 years of age, only time will tell how long he continues to play at a level that is required for a starter in the NFL in 2025.
It will be interesting to see where Wilson potentially ends up in 2025. But at least early on in the 2025 NFL offseason, it seems like a return to Pittsburgh is likely not a very realistic possibility.
