It’s been widely known that Russell Wilson did not exactly get along with Seattle Seahawks leadership late in his time with the team, including his former head coach Pete Carroll. But some new information just came to light that shows just how serious the disagreements were and reveals an ironic move that Wilson wanted the team to make.

According to a report from The Athletic, things got so bad in Seattle that Russell Wilson wanted both GM John Schneider and head coach Pete Carroll to be fired. And he had an absolutely shocking choice for their replacement.

“NEWS: In February 2022, Russell Wilson asked Seahawks ownership to fire both GM John Schneider and head coach Pete Carroll, league sources tell The Athletic. Wilson had a preferred replacement in mind: Sean Payton,” The Athletic said in a tweet on Friday morning.

Obviously, this is quite a bit ironic as Sean Payton is now joining Wilson in Denver as his new coach, so Wilson did eventually get exactly what he wanted.

It’s certainly wild news, and the NFL world had plenty to say about it on Twitter.

With Payton now in Denver, Wilson ultimately got his wish. We’ll have to see how it works out for him now.
