Russell Wilson spent the 2024 season with the Pittsburgh Steelers. Although he missed the first six games of the season with a brutal calf injury, when Wilson was healthy again and reinserted as the starter, he immediately raised the ceiling of the Steelers’ offense.
Unfortunately, in the Steelers’ final five games of the season, all losses, Wilson’s production fell off a cliff. His struggles were so deep that although Wilson and the Steelers remained in open communication this offseason, it was clear that the team preferred to turn elsewhere if at all possible.
Now, Wilson appears to have made the decision for them, according to one prominent NFL insider.
“ESPN Sources: The Giants and Super Bowl-winning QB Russell Wilson reached agreement today on a one-year deal worth up to $21 million, including $10.5 million guaranteed.
“The 10-time Pro-Bowl selection had been in discussions with the Giants, Browns and Steelers, but is opting for New York, where Wilson won Super Bowl XLVIII in MetLife Stadium. Now, Wilson is returning there as the Giants’ projected starting QB,” reported ESPN’s Adam Schefter on Tuesday evening.
Fans reacted to the news on social media.
“The Giants current QB situation is a total, epic, embarrassing failure,” one fan wrote on Twitter.
“PLEASE BRING ME TRAVIS HUNTER,” one Giants fan said enthusiastically.
“The Giants going from no Week 1 black QB starters for 100 years to having Future’s arch nemesis and the Crab Leb Connoisseur in their QB room is something not even the NFL script writers saw coming,” another fan added.
It’ll be interesting to watch how this move pans out over the course of the season.
