Injuries are part of the deal for any NFL team, but the New Orleans Saints are taking the whole “next man up” thing to a ridiculous level.
Head coach Dennis Allen said Wednesday that receivers Michael Thomas and Jarvis Landry have already been ruled out for Thursday night’s game against the Arizona Cardinals. In addition, star cornerback Marshon Lattimore, starting tight end Adam Trautman and guard Andrus Peet will miss the game.
Allen also said the Saints starting quarterback will be a game-time decision. Both Jameis Winston and Andy Dalton have been limited in practice this week with back injuries. Winston has not played since Week 3, and Allen sounded like Dalton will get the call.
“Let’s get Jameis fully healthy and go from there,” Allen said (via USA Today). “Andy’s done a good job when he’s been in there. We’ve produced and scored some points.”
The only good news: Wide receiver Chris Olave has cleared the NFL’s concussion protocol and is expected to play Thursday. He stands to have a big night with Thomas and Landry out.
The Saints brutal injury report last week prompted a response from former Saints wide receiver Lance Moore, who played in New Orleans from 2006 through 2013.
I was just looking at the @Saints injury report and let me just say I’m in shape 🤷🏽♂️
